Classic Cardigan: People Like to Crawl Inside Dog Crates at My House

It is 49 degrees below zero* outside, and there's a 3-inch layer of ice and snow covering every horizontal surface. My purse strap broke in the grocery store and I spent so much time today trying to find a replacement (online), that I can no longer stand the sight of Etsy. My cat, Bobby Flay (O'Fish), took his collar off three times. I finished one of the most depressing books I've ever read in my life...

And yet, none of those distractions from my day explain why I've decided to remind the whole Internet about this...

The question isn't just whether the crate is big enough...

...it's whether the crate can double as a club house.

Don't ask me to explain. :)

(By the way, it's a 36" crate.)

~~~~~
And, then, there was this (photo from "Oscar" night in 2012)...
It's Dewi's (crate) view of Jon Farleigh bedded down for the night. Except Dewi, obviously, isn't the one who had the photo opportunity.
And (because you thought it), yes, I was all the way in there with the door shut. Didn't even have to fold myself into quarters!
Well, tell me. Have you ever tried out your dog's crate?
* It's not really 49 degrees below zero outside, it's a "balmy" 19 degrees above zero (F), and expected to drop down to 6(F) overnight. Brrrrr!
    1. Karen, I would've been in my dogs' crate as a child, too, except I only had cats. So I settled for closing us up in my closet. :)
  2. I used to sleep in my first husky Natasha's crate with her almost every night. And Wilhelm is on my bed right now because Amelia is in his crate. *sigh*
    1. Well, it must be a little girl thing. :) No other animals ever get in my dogs' crates, no, we put cat beds ON TOP OF the dogs' crates, so the dogs can be tormented all night. (Not really! They sleep stacked up, but they're too asleep to be tormented.)
  3. LOL funny. We don't have a crate here. At least you finished your book. Ours was so boring and inane we ditched it as no way could we get to the end with our sanity intact. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly
    1. There's almost nothing worse than getting into a book and not being able to finish it, Molly. May we both do better next time!
  5. Huh, never considered crawling in Rita's crate. It didn't last long, and is now disassembled in the garage. Even though her foster mom assured us she loved her crate, that was not the reaction she had to it at our house! Plus she has never gotten into any trouble when we leave her alone, so we took it apart. I'm not sure it would have been as comfy a fit as yours look like! (And now I'm curious what the depressing book was??)
    1. @Jackie, it was Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut. I love me some satire, but this one left me pretty deflated. I liked Vonnegut as a teen - probably because of his humor (as the underlying messages had to have sailed right over my head).
      I'll have to tell you about the book I'm reading now (when I'm done), since you like A Christmas Carol as much as I do. It's called Jacob T. Marley by R. William Bennett, and is a "prequel," I suppose, to Dickens' story. It's supposed to make Marley out like Elphaba in Wicked. (Perhaps you've read it already?)
      As for the crates, we only use them for night sleeping; however, there's an x-pen in my family room for time-outs and unsupervised time. With so many pets, we've gotta keep some order. :) You're lucky Rita is so happy and behaved that you can leave her alone and not return to a disaster!
  6. At least you can climb in there, snuggle, and get some doggie warmth during this long freezing winter.
