What are the chances that the dogs'll go unnoticed at BlogPaws?

Because I was kind of hoping to blend into the woodwork.

So, let me get this straight. I get to sleep on the bed with you?

Whadda you mean there's no room to play fetch at this place?

While many of you are still hugging your pillows tomorrow, Jon Farleigh, Dewi and I will be motoring two hours north to BlogPaws - a huge (literally and figuratively) pet blogger/social media conference.

It will be the first event (including dogs-in-the-room hotel stay) of its kind for all three of us. The dogs are not one bit concerned (or excited). I, on the other hand--being on the soft-spoken to socially-challenged side--am verging on all sorts of emotions.  And it isn't helping that I just read that there will be 400-or-so humans in attendance and about 60 dogs. (That comes out to about one dog per 6.7 animal-crazed people.) So to answer my own question: there's no way in hades that I'm getting out of being seen with the two low-riders. Oh, well. At least I'll have something to talk about.

So I guess the point of this post (because you've all got to be wondering what the heck it is), is that I won't be posting tomorrow. Also, please remember me and the dogs in your thoughts. Thank you.

P.S. I should have lots of pictures and stories to share next week.
P.P.S. As of today, "Dwayne" has not obtained press clearance.

  2. This raises all sorts of questions in my mind.....Do Dewi and JF get to attend or are they hanging out in the room? Are you bringing your kids or is this a true vacation :-)? It looks like a really nice hotel, so when Hurricane Irene keeps everyone locked indoors, it will still be great! I am only about 20 minutes from Tysons Corner so on the off chance the whole thing get boring (yea! right!), feel free to come visit :-) Seriously though, it sounds like great fun/entertainment. I look forward to your reports on the event. Have a great time and get a picture with Laurie of the Daily Corgi.

  3. Yay! I am so glad you are going!! It's going to be so exciting!
Of course, this just makes me even more depressed that I am not. While I am super-shy I also despise missing out on things. You all are going to come back with these awesome stories and I am going to feel like the kid who was sick on the day of the school trip.

But I do hope you have such a great time that you will want to go again next year!

  4. and so while you're gone (leaving us bereft without pee-in-my-pants inducing photos and captions), I will amuse myself for the 100th time looking at "Don Nearly's" picture while listening to James Brown singing "On the Good Foot" and IF we have church on Sunday (if the hurricane veers away from us) I will pray that JF breaks into song right in the middle of the crowd and that Dewi finds some sheep poop at the all you can eat poop buffet. Have a good time and I hope Irene doesn't spoil your fun.

  5. Based on my recent experience with Honey, you'll have plenty of chance to be shy. Everyone will fuss over JF and Dewi so much that you'll be nearly invisible.:)

    See you soon.

  6. @Thanks, Bert. :) Yes, please let this NOT be the time that Dewi picks his marking habit back up!

@Taryn - When I registered with the dogs, I thought I'd have to leave them crated in the room for most of the time, but NO, they get to go with me EVERYWHERE during the conference. :) BUT, the organizers have put together a "Dog Park" with pet sitters in case we dog-bringers need a break. JF and Dewi are going to be dog tired after this. (And yes, it is a vacation!)
Thanks for the invite! I'm supposed to drive back home Saturday evening, but in case I get Irene'd in....:) You should bring Wilson and/or Jimmy to the Sheraton. Maybe they'll give you a half-price ticket. :)

@Kristine - Thanks. :) I agree, feeling left out stinks. But I only live two hours away and you're way out there near the North Pole ;) (meaning you at least have a distance excuse). Yes, maybe (I hope) next year!

@Peggy - Wow! :) I hope you get to have church (go away, Irene!). I don't believe we'll have any sheep bloggers there, so if Dewi eats some poop, we might have to come home early. No!

@Pamela - Thanks for the reassurance! :) Maybe I should take advantage of the dog-oglers and just hand them the dogs' leashes and run. (kidding - kind of) ...and I'm sure you are not invisible!

  7. You can stop by the house on your way north to borrow a man-thong for Dwayne, if you are really concerned about marking.

  8. Hi Y'all,

I am is SOOO excited that Dewi and Jon Farleigh get to go and can't wait to hear of their adventures.

I must say that I do envy you both so much. It would have been so much fun if my Human and I could have joined.

My Human says she understands and feels for you Elizabeth since she does not "do" crowds. She also is on the shy side, preferring just to sit and listen. In case you haven't figured it out, that's why I do ALL the BARKING...errr talking.

    Y'all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  10. @RDM - Oh gosh! I wouldn't be surprised to see "man thongs" for sale at the conference. I would think they've got people on cocked-leg patrol. :(

  16. @browndogcbr Hawk's person - Life would be boring if every personality was the same. :) It's hard to be "shy" sometimes, but it's also cool to just sit (or stand) and listen. ;)
