Do you Bark in the Park?

How about the ballpark?

Jon Farleigh and Dewi do (dooweedoo - hee hee), thanks to Richmond, Virginia's very own Minor League Baseball team, the Flying Squirrels, who hosted Bark in the Park at the Diamond last night.

Yes, much to our relief, the threatening black rainclouds steered just clear of the ballpark and allowed hundreds of human and canine fans (including us) to enjoy a perfect evening celebrating a favorite American pastime. And as promised, here's the photographic evidence.

"Dewi, check it out. There's dogs everywhere."

"Why are you up there when you could be under here?"

"You rock, Mom!"

"I detect chemicals in my nose that make me want to have some of that, urgently, PLEEEZ."

"It's not easy being this good looking."

"Safe?!! Dude, did you get your glasses from 'Poor Eyes'?"

FREE doggie ice cream from Rita's. Dewi ate his and then stole another dog's later. Really.

The view below us.
If you look closely, you will see the team from Richmond PetLovers .com (on the right in the red T's). I'm 99.999 percent sure Sarah (of the blog) is seated on the far right. (I have met her once in person.)

And this is Yours Truly with a Dewi-dog growing out of her face.  :)

Do you follow Layne's awesome blog named for her adorable dogs, Banjo and Millie?
We were lucky enough to meet all of them in person at the game, and we hadn't even planned it!

Layne, her husband and her doggies are super nice (and so very well-behaved). (What? Are you surprised that Layne was behaved?) :)

See how nicely Banjo and Millie are sitting? I, on the other hand, am having a bit of trouble with my boys.

"Okay, quickly, take the photo while I have them in this here choke hold!"
(Notice the looks on JF's and Dewi's faces. It should be a crime to have this much fun.)

Layne, her husband, Banjo and Millie, it was great meeting you!

Now, I'm curious. Are there any other professional baseball teams that sponsor similar dog-friendly game nights? Please tell!

  2. What a rockin' time!! I'm glad the weather held up for the event.

    Jon… it's easy for you!

Oh Dewi, I bet you were "saving" that other dog from "added calories"!

  5. What a cool event! I'm not sure if the minor league team has a bark in the park night in SA, but we did get to take Gus to a Silver Stars game (WNBA). It was so much fun!

Glad to see you made an appearance with your two lovelies!

  7. We had so much fun meeting you all! Let's definitely meet up again at the next fun event in town. We are very lucky that we live in such a pet-loving, pet-friendly city! My husband now has been asking me about corgis a lot (do they have health issues? are they hard to train? etc.) so I have Dewi and Jon Farleigh to thank for piquing his interest! I'd love to add one to our pack!

  11. Great post! Loved the story told in pictures. Couldn't help wondering if all the dogs in attendance were disappointed there really weren't any real squirrels (flying or otherwise)

  12. Thanks, everyone!

@Amber-Mae - I do believe there was something delicious in that ice cream.

@Georgia's Typist - Yes, I was likewise amazed that dogs were invited into the park. I guess it's good PR (and I won't complain).

@Tucker - Keep on your Mom and maybe she'll take you. :)

@Lori - WNBA? Wow, I'm impressed (that they let dogs into the arena).

@Layne - Yes, I will be on the lookout for the next event!
And, oh boy. It's hard to resist the Corgi bug once it gets you (seriously - they're addicting). Maybe you should save a place on your wall for some Corgi art? :)

@Ann - yes, Dewi wandered into another row during the photo shoot and next thing I know, he's going to town on someone else's ice cream. The owner was nice, though, and let him keep it. (She said her dog had already eaten at least three of them.) :)

    @Pup Fan - Yes, small world. :)

@Peanut - Wish you could have been there! And yes, Corgis and flying squirrels have the same rear assemblies, I think. :)

@Talking Dogs - Well, yes, things would've been a whole lot livelier had a real squirrel shown up. I think we would've probably made the national news ("Bedlam breaks out at Richmond ballpark...) :)
