On Canine Devotion: Poetry from the Loo

My Dearest Jon Farleigh,

It is you
Who dutifully accompanies me to the loo

Like a sentry stationed there,
Just beyond my underwear.

But for your quiet presence,
I'd surely not escape the dark menace*

Who stalks me from the floor,
Staring through the bathroom door.

My trusted canine friend
Through thick and thin.

Gentle Corgi.

Affectionately,
Me

  1. BRAVO!

I dare not ask what "Through thick and thin" is in this particular context :-)

    1. 25 points to Taryn for picking up on the "thick and thin" pun! I'll just leave it at that. :-D

  2. LOVE this! It never ceases to amaze me how vigilant Tucker & Phoebe are when I am in the bathroom or, heaven forbid, the shower. They lie there on the bath mat like sentries - occasionally twitching back the shower curtain with their noses. Sometimes Olivia or Finn will come in to supervise. It kills me because it's like "You have BEEN in this shower - you know there's no way out! Where do you think I'm going to go?" LOL!

    1. Tucker's Mom - In addition to supervising the loo, Jon Farleigh lies at the threshold of my shower with his head propped up, staring at me. Eva the cat stares at me from a few feet behind him. Like you, I have no idea why my bathroom habits require so much attention. :) Heck, they even follow me into my closet and lie there under my feet until I run them out!

  3. LOL love it! I thought it was just my pup who loves to follow me in there. :)

  5. Jon Farleigh you are quite the companion and you mom the poet...I have bathroom buddies too. Not all the time but sometimes. Like I'm being checked on.

    1. Ellen - I can't decide whether JF is checking on me or protecting me or just resource guarding me. Somehow, I think the latter is probably the best choice.

    1. Apparently, not a thing, Benny and Lily! I bet there's not a dog in America who's offended by pee or poo.

  8. It is imperative that we accompany you EVERYWHERE.

    No. Matter. What.

My peep gave up privacy years ago!

  9. Zeus likes to sleep or just sit around scratching his collar when I'm in the loo... and beg for a lick from the shower when I shower =/

  10. Dear JF, I'm never allowed into the bathroom. My Typist would think I'm perving. That, from someone who talks about farts, poops, pees and other bowel movements like there was no tomorrow. I just don't get it.

    1. GLP - If JF was as tall as you, he'd probably not get in the loo, either. As it is, he can't see anything above the seat. No harm no foul. ;)

  11. I'm rarely alone in the loo, my two, as curious as kitties are walk around the toilet, get on the top, behind the door and into the sink...it's very unnerving :)

  12. Hahahahaha! This is why I normally use the bathroom, beyond the puppy gate. Of course, it doesn't prevent the cat from visiting as he pleases. I just wish he'd learn to close the door behind him....

  13. My loo is in my bathroom and I usually have company when I'm on the loo, it's a good time to get some cuddles in, lol! But it's a different story when I have a shower, nobody comes near me! Our new house has got a separate toilet and I doubt 2 dogs could fit in the little room with me. I guess I'll find out in a few weeks:) I might even write a poem about it ... not, lol!

    1. Greyhounds CAN Sit - You should totally write a poem about Frankie and Beryl squeezing into your new loo! hehe
