Our New Pet and More on Spoiled Dogs with Too Many Toys

Amphibians love my neighborhood. Youngest Child loves amphibians. Meet our new pet amphibian:
This is Thaddeus (Tad) Pole.
He (or she) lives in a jar in the laundry room.
Please try to contain your jealousy.

Also, remember the photo yesterday of all the dog toys contained on the rug?
Here is the same rug today:
The toys have been strewn all over the house.

This is how the rug got in a wad:
I didn't have the camera handy when Dewi attempted to roll himself up in the rug like a tamale.

Have I mentioned lately how much I adore these dogs? :)

Coming tomorrow on the blog: The lowdown on edible chewies (as chewed by Jon Farleigh and Dewi)

(Off to buy fish flakes for Tad...)

  1. At first glance, I thought the corner of the rug had been chewed! Hopefully not....

I think that tamale behavior is a Cardigan trait.

Check out these two older posts on Wilson (esp. the first one....):

  2. I guess tadpoles are relatively maintenance free, aren't they?

I have sworn that there will be no more critters in my house unless they can feed, walk, and clean up after themselves. :-P

  3. @Taryn - Well, I'll be. It does appear to be a breed trait. :) Those photos of Wilson and his antics are hilarious! And you know, I almost included a photo in today's post of Dewi knocking the cushion off the recliner seat (on purpose). He prefers to lie on the hard springs. So silly!

@Liz - Yes, you'd think tadpoles would be easy. Except why am I having to stand guard over the fish flakes so YC doesn't feed Tad to death??? Ugh.

  4. Hi Y'all,

Looks like Wilson and Dewi did a little redecorating. Evidently they don't care for the humans' decorating.

    Y'all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  5. Funny about the tadpole. The Husband and The Child "rescued" a whole herd of tadpoles from a rapidly evaporating puddle 3-4 weeks ago. We had a mass die-off on the first batch.

They went back for another batch. We started w/ 10 or so in a 10 gal tank inside, and another 10 or so outside.

After much on-line research we've been able to keep all of these alive. It gets tricky when they turn into frogs, but we've now produced quite a few frogs/toads. Unfortunately, we don't think any of these has survived when we set them free.

Fun to raise the taddys, though. Enjoy!

  6. OOOH! It looked like you were hurting each other! I hope not!

Hope you have a happy Friday! :)

    Woofs & hugs,

  7. i like froggies. when i was young a long time ago, i used to go hunting taddies. i still remember an unfortunate one that got squished under my thumb. it was an anful shrieky moment that no doubt scarred me for life.

i bought some taddies a few years ago from a local market. only 2 survived. 1 got run down by a car hopping across the road. the other one is a real romeo and lives in our backyard waterpot. his name is alfred. maybe you've already heard of him?

  8. @Hawk - I see you can comment as yourself now; yay!

@Lani - YC got these out of a puddle, too. Although I'm not confident the little things (there are three) will survive the jostling and over feeding of fish flakes, we've all been on the internet trying to learn how to keep them healthy. (The Sea Monkeys were so much simpler.) :) We shall see...

@Bailey - No, they like to puff up and make lots of noise, but they never hurt each other. :)

@GLP's Typist - That's funny. :) I was the girl kid who hunted for frogs and toads all day. (I never knew where to find the taddies, or I'd have gotten them, too.) I don't care much for the slimy ones, but think the warty little toads are SOOOOO cute. :) I think Tad is going to be a wee slimy one (if he makes it). I've seen Alfred a time or two on your blog, but I had no idea you raised him from a babe. :) We once had a one-eyed toad living in our back yard. He stayed for years - never knew what happened to him.

  10. Cool! I sued to catch tadpoles all the time when I was a kid. Brings back memories.....
