That Picture Don't Make a Lick of Sense: A Corgi and 3 Sheep Walk Into a Pen...

Please excuse the quality of the below photo; it was taken three years ago with my crappy camera.

So, who's ready to guess WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON IN THIS PICTURE?!

A. Jon Farleigh told a "Your mama" joke to the sheep in the middle, not realizing the 2 flanking sheep were her mama and aunt. oops.
B. The sheep have unanimously decided (because it was disgusting) to cut Jon Fareigh off the "free" all-you-can-eat poo buffet.
C. Jon Farleigh is failing his first herding instinct test.
D. Jon Farleigh is trying to speak sheep code (e.g., baa ram ewe), except, he slept through most of Babe, and instead of speaking sheep (unbeknownst to him), he's speaking Patagonian Toothfish
E. Probably all of the above.

Leave your guess in comments or on Facebook (please!).

*****

As for the last installment...

E. I'm trying to get Jon Farleigh to lie down for a treat, because we're contestants in a "best trick" dog contest at the local fall festival.
(Although, thanks to a reader's calling his expression out to me, I'm not entirely sure why that old man is smiling. Aaaaagh! I need a shower!☺)

P.S. Do you know how hard it is to train a corgi to LIE DOWN?! They're ALREADY down low enough to reach the treat, for Pete's sake! Just give it to me already (is what JF was thinking)!

P.P.S. We might not have won a prize for best trick at the fall festival, but that's OK, because Jon Farleigh and Dewi tied for Cutest Dog!

That Picture Don't Make a Lick of Sense: Just What Kind of Show Is This?

Hope you didn't think I'd run out of material for this little blog feature (since it's been a little longer than usual since the last one). Because, no.

So, are you ready?! Cool!

Tell me, WHAT IN THE WORLD is going on in this picture*?

* Some of you might remember this one. In fact, some of you gave me the idea for some of the choices you're about to see. So if you do (remember), congratulations! You've been reading longer than my kid has been able to ride a bike! (Not really, but it's close.) THANK YOU! ☺

A. The old man in orange is getting a cheap thrill.
B. The poodle is getting a cheap thrill.
C. The older lady is horrified because she knows the old man is getting a cheap thrill.
D. The older lady's Pomeranian is reciting "Old MacDonald" in his head, while plotting how he's gonna get the treat out of my hand.
E. I'm trying to get Jon Farleigh to lie down for a treat, because we're contestants in a "best trick" dog contest at the local fall festival.
F. A., B. and C.

Leave your guess in the comments or on the Facebook page! Thank you!

As for the previous installment...

E. They're cheap Statue of Liberty hats from Target; they were posing for patriotic holiday shoots; and I had no idea how to put them on correctly. You'd think for $1, they could print some directions on the price stickers!

Ta da!

Totally worth the $1, by the way.

'Til next time! ☺

Jon Farleigh and Nick Get Their Fringe Trimmed, with Benefits

By benefits I mean getting felt up by two women while enjoying an unobstructed view of hundreds of canine supermodels at the dog show.

This is big Nick, Jon Farleigh's nephew, and a fellow fluff. He came
with his mom, Liz, and human boy, "Monkey Man."
Isn't he a DOLL?

Ladies, could you please form a line to the right?

Now, get-a-load of this face.

I do get a weensy bit nervous when they start messing around back there

But, I'm willing to let it slide.

Nick and Jon Farleigh got their ears, ruffs, feet, pants, tails and foreleg fringe cleaned up and they look marvelous!
Thanks, Dina, for lending your time, know-how and plethora of dog grooming equipment!

See everyone tomorrow!

Things You Don't Want to See on the Menu at the Dog Show Concession Stand

Creative credit for this post duly belongs to Dina at Life with the Horde, because she thought it first.
(And I mentally slapped myself for my slow wit.)

How about some ketchup with your sack?

I'll take my steak on a plate, thank you. ;-)

P.S. In fairness to the venue, the shrimp I ordered was yummy.

So, What the Hay Does the Face Behind a Leonberger's Furry Butt Look Like?

Well, I'm about to show you..and the faces that belong to a few other butts you might have ID'd in yesterday's quiz. But first! A few random editorial notes:

  • This is my 299th published post. I'm noting this here because I'll probably forget to mention the 300th post tomorrow, just like I forgot my 200th post, as if it matters.
  • I am honored to be counted among some of the most dog-butt-savvy people around the blog-o-sphere.
  • I love Polldaddy.com almost as much as I love my Belgian waffle maker (and I, sadly, rarely use either).
And now, the most adorable Leonberger face I ever did see...

I really am as big as a lion.

Here's the Pembroke Welsh Corgi...

My butt drives people nuts.

Any questions? ;)

And the Doberman Pinscher...

Friends, this is my serious show face; when I get out of here, I
will roll in something stinky, goose my person and let my tongue hang out.

And the Afghan Hound...

Okay, so it's not really the face, but it's close.

Next up, the Holstein cow Great Dane...

Clearly NOT a cow OR a black and white (Harlequin) Great Dane
(that one wouldn't look at my camera), BUT definitely a Great Dane.

And the Australian Shepherd? Well, I don't have a picture of her face, but here's the face of a most adorable Bernese Mountain Dog puppy that was lying next to the Aussie...

A pillow would be nice.

This is the English Springer Spaniel...

I look nothing like an English Setter, actually. :)

And the French Bulldog...

For more Frenchie eye-candy, go look at Benny and Lily.

And not a donkey, but an Irish Wolfhound...

Oh wait! That's not a face!

I just wanted you to get a feel for how enormous he is. :)
Here you go...

A gentle-dog's dog

And last, but not least, the mop rasta Komondor, er, actually, I don't have a face for that dog either, so please accept these photos of Jon Farleigh and some new friends, instead.

The Pembroke: Oh, yeah? That's nothing; I just saw Pepe wearing pink curlers.

The Pit bull: The first one to blink has to do a 30-second down stay.

The Borzoi: Wait! I didn't quite get your name!

Coming tomorrow: Some fun dog show words for not-really-wordless Wednesday!

Can You Identify a Dog Breed by Its Butt? Take the Quiz and Find Out!

So Jon Farleigh and I went to an AKC all-breed conformation show on Saturday to cheer on his sister, Georgia, who was entered in Cardigan Welsh Corgis (and who, by the way, wound up getting Best of Breed - yay!) and to see all the other lovely dog breeds entered that day.

What kind of dog am I?

I got lots of great photos of Georgia in the ring (links to Facebook photo album), a few of Jon Farleigh and his nephew, Nick, getting a trim on the grooming table (which I'll save for another day), and, due to bad one-handed camera aim (as Jon Farleigh's leash was in the other), lots of pictures of random DOG BUTTS. (oops)

But do I despair and hide those lovely pooch booties away, never to be seen?

NO WAY, JOSE!

I make a fun game out of it! And here it is!

A 10-dog, multiple choice quiz to test your dog butt identification skills. How will you do?

If quiz doesn't load, click here.

More dog show photos coming soon!

Of Big Brothers, 'Female Dogs' and Unrequited Love (It was a GREAT day!)

The following blog post has been rated NC-17 (no corgis over 17 allowed) due to one completely innocent scene in which technically correct language is used. Reader discretion advised.

Note: Regrettably, "Dwayne," special tabloid correspondent, could not be reached for comment. Rumor has it he's (sulking) taken holiday on a remote ranch in the Chihuahuan Desert.

*****

So last Saturday after the dog show, there was a Cardi party (proving that, yes, where there are Cardis, a party cannot be far behind).

There were typical introductions and exchanges of pleasantries...

...and pretty quickly, old relationships revisited...
Dewi to Georgia: "Hey; how's it going?"

Georgia to Dewi: "I think it's better that we're just friends."

...only to be followed by awkward silences.

And there were "big" (in the physical sense - they're littermates) brothers protecting "little" (in stature only - this girl is large on personality) sisters...
...from Dewi...
...and Rush
...whether she needed protecting or not.

And she ate it up.
Georgia loves her brother, Jon Farleigh. <3

And new friendships blossomed...
Dewi and Alley
(bliss)

...while some did not.
Rush (who, attempting to be a gentleman, opted not to use slang terms) to Georgia: "You are a beautiful bitch; wanna play?"

Georgia (who sadly misunderstood Rush's intentions): "Who you calling a bitch, dog-breath; it's Princess, and NO, I do not want to play!"
(Please, oh please, click to enlarge this photo!)

(No worries though, Rush quickly brushed it off.)
Rush to his daughter, Alley: "This is one cool party, huh?"

All-in-all, it was one fantastic day!

Young hunk alert!
Flirt too...

Young babe alert!
Alley...

and...

And moving to the porch...
Spencer and Bogey (JF's and Georgia's half-brother) (So sorry, Bogey, all I got out of all these shots was your rear end. Will make it up sometime, dude.)

Spencer :)

The lovely, Scout (Nick's and Sally's mama)

Spencer and Scout

And back outside...
Georgia, aka: Princess Pretty Pants

So...
...much...
...FUN!

Until next time...

Have a fantastically fun weekend!

The Chronicles of Cardigan would like to thank Anne Taylor of Fine Creek Cardigan Welsh Corgis for a delightful afternoon.
